Americans have a long history of both celebrating or condemning politics and politicians. Our leaders need thick skins because somewhere out there in the United States is a group that doesn't like the way things are going. Such is the nature of a multi-cultural country that jealously guards its Freedom of Speech.

 Unfortunately, times are tough right now. Money is scarce, taxes are high and we are involved in another undeclared war. Liberals condemn the heartless conservatives while the conservatives sentence the "godless" liberals to Hell. Every time the country has a security breach, our private lives become a bigger part of some government computer file. Human rights are disappearing in the name of "national security." All of this has happened before, but we have always gotten through it to better times.

What makes these hard times different is the humorless venom that keeps coming out of our mouths. Communication is sooooooo easy with cell phones, email, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, that we often comment before we think things through. We respond to life with emotional outbursts that we wouldn't dare say in person for fear of getting into a fight.

Let's cut back on the electronic bad manners and sport our beliefs with pride and humor. Silkscreened t-shirts don't cost a lot, but a good one will draw a lot of attention. We can argue a little and have some fun. Be a good sport and don't piss in the mainstream of America because we all swim there.
